Can commercial window film reduce AC load?
Solar control film reduces the solar heat gain entering through the glass, and that reduces the portion of the cooling load created by that gain. How much it changes measured energy use depends on the building, the system, its controls and how the space is operated — so we describe the mechanism rather than guaranteeing a savings figure.
Where the effect is most visible is not usually the utility bill but the perimeter: fewer hot-zone complaints, less demand on perimeter boxes, and a system that stops chasing an afternoon load it was never sized for.
Buildings with a high glass-to-floor ratio, unshaded south and west exposures and uncoated glazing see the largest change. Buildings already fitted with high-performance Low-E glass see less, because much of that work is already being done.
Anyone guaranteeing a specific percentage reduction in energy cost from window film is guessing at the parts of the equation that belong to the mechanical system.
Technical performance, service life and warranty terms come from current 3M documentation for the specific product and application. We attach those documents to proposals rather than paraphrase them.
