In a curtain-wall building the perimeter behaves like a different building from the core: it gains heat all afternoon, the boxes chase it, and everyone within twelve feet of the glass is uncomfortable while the core is fine. Uneven temperatures across a floor plate are usually a solar problem before they are a balancing problem.

Solar control film reduces the load at its source. It will not fix undersized equipment, but it removes a large share of what that equipment is chasing.

Glare is governed by visible light transmission, not by how expensive the film is. The design work is establishing how low VLT can go before the floor feels dim on a gray morning — and that answer changes by elevation, not by floor number.

If glare is the main complaint, the darkest film is not automatically the right film. Interior daylight, exterior appearance and the existing glazing all constrain the choice.

Glass-fronted meeting rooms need privacy at seated eye level without going opaque, and full-height glazing needs manifestation. Banded and gradient decorative film handles both, and it should be specified alongside the solar scope rather than as a separate project six months later.

Work is sequenced zone by zone with desks pulled back from the glass for a few hours, or moved to evenings and weekends where daytime work is disruptive. Employees can normally remain in the building — they just cannot be at the glass line in the active zone.
