What the film does
A thick polyester safety laminate is applied to the interior surface of existing glazing. When the glass is struck, the fragments stay bonded to the film instead of clearing the opening, so an attacker has to keep working at the same pane and the glass does not become a hazard to occupants.
The value shows up as retention and as seconds of delay, and in how a lite behaves in an accidental impact. Neither is a resistance rating.
