UV & Fade Protection

Fading is driven by ultraviolet energy, visible light and heat together. UV is the largest single contributor in most materials, which is why film helps — and why no film stops fading completely.

The honest framing is rate, not prevention: film slows the process substantially on the glazing it is applied to.

What is actually fading

Textiles, printed graphics, wood finishes, artwork, packaging and merchandise all respond differently. A storefront display fading in a season and a lobby finish fading over five years are the same mechanism at different rates.

Where the exposure is severe, the sensible scope combines UV rejection with solar control so heat and visible light come down at the same time.

Specifying it properly

Most quality architectural films reject the large majority of ultraviolet energy, so the differentiator between products is usually solar performance and appearance rather than UV alone. We quote the manufacturer's published UV figure for the proposed film rather than a round number.

For collections and sensitive interiors, the conversation should also include the lighting design and the layout, because film only governs what comes through the glass.

We do not promise that fading stops. We describe the mechanism, quote the manufacturer's UV data for the specified film, and note that visible light and heat still contribute after UV is addressed.

Common questions

Straight answers

Does window film stop fading?
No. It slows it. UV is the dominant driver and film rejects most of it, but visible light and heat also contribute, so fading continues at a reduced rate.
Do I need a dark film for UV protection?
No. UV rejection is largely independent of how dark a film looks, so a clear or near-clear film can address UV without reducing daylight.
Does it help with merchandise in a storefront?
Yes, particularly when combined with solar control so heat and visible light come down alongside the ultraviolet exposure.
