What is the difference between ceramic and reflective window film?
Ceramic films use non-metallized ceramic particles and read neutrally, holding their color and not interfering with signal. Reflective films use a metallized or reflective layer that rejects more total solar energy and provides daytime screening, at the cost of a visibly changed facade and no privacy after dark.
The choice is usually settled by appearance and privacy rather than by performance. If the building cannot look mirrored, reflective is out regardless of how well it performs. If daytime privacy is a stated requirement, reflective is often the only product that delivers it.
Ceramic constructions have two practical advantages beyond appearance: they do not corrode, because there is no metal layer, and they do not attenuate cellular or Wi-Fi signal. In heavily connected buildings that matters more than it used to.
Dyed films sit below both and should generally be avoided in commercial work — they lose color and performance over time in a way that neither ceramic nor quality reflective constructions do.
