Is security window film bulletproof?
No. Security window film helps retain broken glass and, depending on the complete tested system, may increase resistance to forced entry and glass fallout. It does not stop projectiles. Ballistic protection requires rated glazing assemblies tested to a published ballistic standard.
The distinction matters most in the settings where the question is asked — schools, clinics, public buildings — because a decision-maker who believes film is bulletproof is making a safety decision on false information.
What film genuinely provides is retention and delay. Fragments stay bonded to the film instead of clearing the opening, so an attacker has to keep working at the same pane, and occupants are not exposed to falling glass.
How much delay depends on the whole assembly: the film, the existing glass, the frame, and whether a perimeter attachment anchors the filmed lite in the opening. Film alone, in a frame it can be pushed out of, delivers far less than the same film properly attached.
