What is a window film attachment system?
An attachment system bonds or fastens the filmed glass to the window frame around its perimeter, so the filmed lite cannot be pushed out of the opening as an intact sheet. The two common approaches are a structural silicone wet-glaze bead and a mechanically fastened profile. Most of the usable forced-entry delay in a security installation comes from the attachment, not the film alone.
Without attachment, a well-filmed pane behaves like a flexible sheet: the glass breaks, the film holds it together, and the whole assembly can be pushed inward out of the glazing pocket. The retention worked; the opening still failed.
Which method a frame will accept is a survey finding. Structural wet-glaze needs adequate glazing bite, a sound pocket and a clean substrate, plus cure time in the schedule. Mechanical profiles are more forgiving of frame condition but are visible on the interior.
Regional example: the Seaford School District project used approximately 480 linear feet of 3M IPA attachment alongside roughly 500 square feet of film — attachment quantity is measured in linear feet and belongs on its own line in a budget.
